John Murray 1903 [but 1917]. Presentation copy, INSCRIBED "Eric Cowan with best wishes from Arthur Conan Doyle April/25" on the title page of volume I. No.497 of 1,000 copies SIGNED by the author. 510 sets were bound thus by Smith Elder. The remaining 490 quires were passed to John Murray when the company was sold; these were re-issued in and after 1917 with new title pages giving Murray as publisher. Twelve volumes, a VG clean set (ink name dated 1919 in each, spines a little faded, covers of a few volumes a little marked, one volume stained to the corner of the first few pages)
