Description
Upper class amateur sleuth Albert Campion is on the case to discover who is trying to murder Judge Crowdy Lobbett. And four others have already died in his place. Can Campion solve the case without becoming another victim? An intriguing tale particularly memorable for its colorful characters, Mystery Mile -- originally written in 1930 -- has been produced by BBC as part of its Albert Campion series starring Peter Davison, and it has been broadcast on PBS Mystery! Margery Allingham (1904 - 1966) grew up in Essex, England. Her first writing for which she was paid was a story published in her aunt's newspaper, making Margery a professional at the age of eight. Her first novel was published when she was just seventeen. Of her 30 books, 21 star Albert Campion. Francis Matthews' long acting career encompasses stage and screen. His roles on British TV have included the Paul Temple series, Brat Farrar, Taggart, The Gender Gap, and Tears Before Bedtime. He also appeared in the acclaimed 1960s TV series, The Avengers, and has toured Europe as Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady "Allingham's work is always of the first rank."-- The New York Times "Matthews does far more than read the tale; he dramatizes the action as well. It's hard to believe one actor creates so many different voices. Each character is perfectly portrayed with just the right intonation and accent. Listeners will delight."-- Audiofile
