Description
The setting is a quiet English village with more than its share of shameful secrets, presenting Miss Marple with mysteries within a mystery. While the first person narrator, Jerry Burton, is convalescing, he receives anonymous hate mail. And another person who receives a poison pen letter takes it so seriously that she kills herself. The coroner rules her death a suicide, but Miss Marple questions his verdict. Was it the work of a poison pen or of a poisoner? As usual, Christie keeps her listeners guessing. Agatha Christie (1890-1976), known as the "Queen of the Golden Age" of British fiction, wrote over 66 novels, short stories, and screenplays. Her play, The Mousetrap, has been running continuously in London since 1952, breaking all records. Recognized as the most widely published novelist of all time in any language, Christie is outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare. She was made a Dame of the British Empire for her contributions to literature and culture.
