All authors are Victorian-era or British Golden Age writers recognized for their power of imagination. Baroness Orczy (1865-1947), a Hungarian-born British novelist, is best known for The Scarlet Pimpernel, published in 1905. Maurice Leblanc (1864-1941) was a French pulp crime writer. His first stories appeared in 1907 featuring Arsene Lupin. These stories became successful films in the 1930s starring John Barrymore as Lupin. Freeman Wills Crofts (1879-1957), born in Dublin, is from the Golden Age of Mystery writing. He published his first short story in 1921 and is particularly known for his Inspector French stories. He was influential in the later work of such notable authors as Dorothy L. Sayers and Georges Simenon. Titles by Sayers and Simenon are also available from The Audio Partners. Victor Whitechurch (1868-1933) and E. Conway collaborated on "A Warning in Red" and published it in 1899. It will please railroad enthusiasts and is in the "Impossible Crime" genre, mixing railroad technology with spy, mystery, and adventure elements. Patrick Malahide, one of the finest actors in Great Britain, is known for his television portrayal of Ngaio Marsh's Inspector Alleyn. He has starred in countless other productions, including Middlemarch and The Singing Detective. His distinctive and sinister voice adds to the excitement of these mysteries.
